♞ Avoid Politics In Your Pitch
Hey Persuaders!
Avoid Politics In Your Pitch
One of the best tactics for a pitch is to leverage people's predispositions about you to create an impactful and memorable moment.
Knowing that there will be bias for/against you based on your race, education, gender, etc. can allow you to turn any disadvantage into an advantage strategically. Lately, however, I’ve seen many founders instead use this strategy to try and align with/oppose themselves with specific political views. This is a losing strategy.

One of the common arguments that I hear from founders is that they are fine with upsetting people with their politics because its a form of screening their investors. The issue is that as a founder, your primary objective should be raising funds for your company and growing the business. Taking a political stand often comes at the cost of your business as you cut out a significant portion of investors who might otherwise have funded you.
While this may have seemed like obvious advice a decade ago (and I hope it still does to you) please try to avoid politics in your pitch at all costs.
