♞ Chronicle Deck Breakdown
Hey Persuaders!
Today, we will look at a Seed deck from Chronicle used to raise $7.5M.
This is a horrible opening slide. There is no one-liner; the company name is mentioned multiple times (even with the context of them using their software to make the deck, this makes no sense). The sizing/design also looks terrible; I can barely read anything. Surprised most VCs didn’t stop at this point in all honesty.
This is an excellent slide, it provides a lot of social proof for the company from their backgrounds, experience, backers, etc. It also tells a story about the founding team and shares their WHY. This is a solid slide.
Winter Style Starts with Nike Air Max.
Discover the Nike Air Max collection designed just for men. With standout styles like the Air Max Plus, AM1, DN, and Pulse, these sneakers combine innovative technology and eye-catching designs. Each model offers cushioned support and versatility, making them perfect for any occasion.
This is a clear problem slide; the fact that they use the word Friction is excellent. I’ve spoken before about how this helps investors understand that you aren’t trying to re-invent a category but instead to make it easier to do something. That can lead to the category growing.
Another great slide is that they are using terminology that is parallel to traditional pitch deck terms but brings different connotations. This is a great strategy. My only issue is that they didn’t more clearly tackle the “friction” points they previously identified.
This is a good product slide that clearly demonstrates some of the product's value propositions.
Distribution is key to success, and here, they address that by showing how they can get their product into the hands of more people without needing to invest in marketing. Investors love inbuilt growth loops. If you have any, you need to highlight them.
I like this dual competitive landscape slide, it's something I will likely start to use more; the left slide provides a visual of the competitive landscape, while the right side allows them to dive into more details.
Social validation and testimonials are always great. They allow someone else to sing your praises. The way they did it here is also smart, as they used testimonials to support their key points of differentiation.
