♞ Daylight Deck Breakdown

Hey Persuaders!

In partnership with

Today, I want to look at this deck from Daylight, the Series A deck was used to raise $12M+.

I chose this deck because they skipped the traditional opening slide and started on their perspective framer, which I thought was very interesting.

The focus on storytelling is evident throughout the deck. The narrative tone helps the reader understand a B2B company’s product and potential despite its inherent complexity.

Here, we can see the first slide in the deck, which immediately establishes the narrative the company wants to communicate.

I don’t love an education system this early, but this seems necessary given the complexity of their market and the way they have used time (evolution) to maintain a narrative tone. Stories move through time so the small mentions of time in this slide make it feel like the start of a bigger story.

In short, education slides are never ideal but finding a way to integrate them seamlessly like this makes them more effective.

Another education slide here, this type it lacks that narrative tone. After a strong start, this deck really falls flat, but this seems to have been done strategically as investors are statistically most likely to read text on the first 4 slides before dumping the big text and information early on.

As we exit that grace period investors tend to have with the first 4 slide they use the 4th slide to hook investors back in by presenting a challenge that they can help overcome.

Also, note the rule of three used here to present three problems.

Mirroring the Challenge slide, the Solution slide here provides a nice closed look on what challenges customers face and how they solve them.

Here, we see them go back to using time as the basis for establishing a narrative tone. These slides don’t really have a traditional story, but the fact that they do a great job of continuing to break information into past, present, and future gives the illusion of a story and keeps you hooked.

Here is the benefit. By showing the present you can then impress with the future!
