Soloman’s Paradox

Solomon's Paradox refers to a psychological phenomenon where people tend to reason more wisely about other people's problems than their own. The term was named after the biblical King Solomon, known for his wisdom yet who made many poor personal decisions.

Almost all investors suffer from this psychological predisposition. It’s why many can be critical of your business at times. They see your challenges as trivial and your future obstacles as insurmountable.

So how can you take advantage?

Stanley® tumblers are the latest craze—and so is Divvy, BILL’s free spend and expense management solution. It’s no surprise since 92% of users say Divvy was easy to get up and running, and our TEI report lists a staggering 487% ROI.

Don’t get FOMO, get a free Stanley tumbler when you take a 20-minute demo. Additionally, get $100 when you start using Divvy.

Deepen the Problem

To avoid falling victim, make sure that your pitch focuses heavily on the problem you are solving. Explain the problem:

  • Literally

  • Figuratively

  • With A Real-Life Example

If you do this, then there is no way that investors will trivialize your problems.

When talking about future challenges, make sure to emphasize the skills that will be necessary to tackle them: Courage, determination, perseverance, strategic thinking, etc. If you do this, they will judge the size of those challenges (and the risk you fail/succeed) through the lens of someone with those skills and not from their perspective.
