♞ Keyway Deck Breakdown
Hey Persuaders!
Today, we will look at a Seed deck from Keyway used to raise $15M.
This opening slide is missing a one-liner. Especially since the name doesn’t even provide an indication of what the company is doing it is vital that they have a one liner if this deck is being sent out by email.
This is an excellent overview of the company; it is clear and concise and sets the tone for the rest of the deck. However, it would be much stronger with a perspective framer to show why this matters in the scope of the market.
Hire offshore talent that come with impressive resumes:
Amira, a Fordham University grad and former JP Morgan associate. Anika, a Kenyon College grad and former Moody’s analyst.
This is the level of talent that Oceans attracts to partner with companies like True Classic, Pattern Brands, and Othership.
Hire full-time, proactive, highly experienced individuals for $3000/month.
A strong team slide that focuses specifically on what makes them qualified to run this company, no wasted time pushing credentials that don’t directly show an ability to succeed in this specific role.
These market slides that share massive industry numbers tend to scare away investors. It would be best if you always were working from the bottom up. How much will you make from each customer, and how will you grow your customer base?

This slide is difficult to understand and appreciate, it could be more effective if this “problem” was explained over two slides and in a more clear manner.
The colour contrast from problem to solution is a small but effective shift in this deck. The clear solution slide that walks the reader from start to finish is also powerful when contrasted with the messy problem slide.
Using the red vs blue contrast for problem vs solution makes it easier to visualize the value here. Using the rule of threes is also effective in communicating in a way that will stick with investors.
Showing the benefit to those in the market and not just your direct customers can be a great way of communicating the value you add to the ecosystem. It is not something most decks need, but when done correctly, it can be persuasive.
This is a far more powerful way to show your growth and potential then simply stating that you will capture X% of a $5T market.
