Many founders are completely lost when building their team slide in the pitch deck. They rely on templates and copy and paste their images and bios and call it a day.
The team slide at the pre-seed/seed level could actually be a significant factor in your fundraising success. Once you get to Series A onwards, it becomes less important, but in those early stages, investors are truly taking a chance on you!

How to build your team slide:
Show the connection between founders - Founder breakups are the top cause of startup failures. In external studies of companies, market timing is credited as the top reason, but when asking startup founders themselves, over 60% who fail blame their co-founder and/or their relationship with their co-founder. As someone who has been in that position, I know that when I work with teams (and especially when I invest) I want to know that the co-founders will not abandon each other and that they can survive the stress that will be put on their relationship. Many pre-seed VCs will tell you they care more about the relationship between the founders than their individual accomplishments.
Show you can return funds - Investors don’t care about a bunch of BS positions in your bio. What they care about is your ability to return capital to them. Fill this slide with evidence that you have returned capital (past exits) as well as evidence that you can return capital with this business (past business/entrepreneurial experience, industry experience). Nobody cares about your degree unless its from a top university (shows intelligence), in a related field or proves specific knowledge.
