♞ Nailing Your Hook

Nailing Your Hook

When building a pitch deck, many founders spend loads of time on their team, market and ask slides. From my experience, this is where 50%+ of the time is spent as founders believe this is where they can make the biggest impact.

The reality, however, is that your hook is 80% of your pitch. If you can’t hook an investor in your first 3-4 slides then you don’t have a sale to make by the time they get to the slides that you are spending so much time building.

So today, I want to share the 3 slides that you should be spending 90%+ of your time nailing.

Cold Email Setup Offer

We sent 10,000 cold emails per day, and scaled a B2B offer to $108k MRR in 90 days. Now, you can have the same system set up (completely done-for-you) inside your own business - WITHOUT going to spam or spending thousands of dollars.

  1. Cover Slide - This is hugely underrated, but it is your first impression. I’ve had decks make me excited from great cover slides and others where I go in expecting it to be bad based on this slide. Spending the time to make sure this slide is well designed, features a great one-liner, and highlights your branding (logo and name), all without unnecessary information, is key to a good first impression.

  2. Perspective Framer - This is the second slide in the deck, the one that every great pitch has, and 99% of pitches miss. It’s what made Steve Jobs’ pitches great. Elon Musk uses this without fail. You need to have it, and you need to nail it. This slide sets the framer through which the rest of the deck is interpreted.

  3. Problem - People care about solving big problems. Nobody cares about a solution to a problem that doesn’t impact them. If you want anyone to understand why your solution matters, then you need them to understand the problem's scope and care about finding a solution personally.

Do you focus 70% of your time on these three slides?
