Mistakes aren’t that bad.

What do you see when you look at that tweet?

You might see an embarrassing moment where I was corrected in front of thousands of people. That would be the way 99% of people see it.

But you are special. You are my subscriber, and you know to look deeper.

What you should see is engagement!

Pratfall Effect Part 2

Last week I wrote about how mistakes can benefit you and make you more likely to raise. Small mistakes.

Many of you wrote back saying you didn’t believe it. So now I come armed with a few examples.

That tweet above was written when I was researching the Pratfall Effect newsletter, it has a bunch of replies correcting my spelling, and I got 59.3k impressions and 160+ engagements. Both are about 10x higher than my average tweet.

The spelling mistake caught people’s attention and helped me get more FREE eyeballs on my content. You might think that attention is negative, but I got 200 new followers from that Tweet and 50 new subscribers.

Famous Example

The most famous example of this psychological bias in practice is Starbucks.

Their best marketing comes from people posting pictures with their drink. What is the #1 reason people do that? Because their name is misspelled.

Key Takeaways

  • Small mistakes make you relatable and likeable, don’t overdo it or purposely do it, but don’t be nervous about a minor error messing up your pitch.

  • Companies already use this psychological effect to their benefit and I’ve personally tested it and know it works.

  • The Pratfall effect is real; use this knowledge to calm your nerves and prepare for your next pitch.
