♞ Spike Deck Breakdown
Hey Persuaders!
Today, we will look at a Series A deck from Spike used to raise $8M.
This deck is an example of how you can follow all of the “principles” of creating a great deck perfectly but execute it horribly. This company has incredible content and a powerful pitch, but the structure and format of the deck ruin the impact of the message.
This opening slide does a great job of pitching what the company does and providing a bit of a perspective framer on the opening slide. On this first slide they are further than most are 2-3 slides in. But they are missing the company name, which is a fatal mistake.
This is a great start for a perspective framer. But I’m not a huge fan of spreading out the perspective framer over numerous slides, it would have been more powerful if they could have kept this to one slide.

This perspective framer has now spread over three slides. It consists of a few short sentences that could have fit on a single slide. Even a powerful perspective framer can be ruined if it’s dragged out.
This still reads as a continuation of the perspective framer. Nothing is here to move the narrative forward and present the problem/solution. It would have been extremely powerful if they combined all of these six slides into one perspective framer. At most, this could have been 2-3 slides but six slides is far too much.
This type of social proof is very powerful, but again, the timing and pacing of the deck are off, which removes the impact of the slide.
This is the first time that they start to explain a problem. We are now on the 9th slide. It’s just too late. The content is so strong but the structure and the pacing are so detrimental.
