♞ Talking Finances
Hey Persuaders!
How do you talk to investors about your finances?
One of the most difficult parts of a pitch is talking about your finances. Many founders can talk about the company (problem, solution, team, product) and the market (opportunity, competitors, size), but they start to stumble when they need to start talking about finances.
Today, I want to go through some of the key elements that you need to mention when going through the finances. For clarity, when I talk of finances here, I mean in relation to the company and the funding round, not your business model. So we aren’t talking about pricing or sales, that is part of the market section of your deck.

Use of Funds - You need to tell investors how you will use their money. What will you buy with it?
Milestones - What will you accomplish with the money investors give you? Once you spend it where will the company be?
Clean cap table - What does your cap table look like? How much have you given up? Who are your investors? Do you have SAFEs stacked? Investors need to know that your capable is solid before they will invest.
Valuation - How did you get to your valuation, and why is it fair for investors? How can they get a 10x return?
Commitments - Do you have other investors committed to this round? If so, how much is committed?
Do you hit all five of these points in your pitch deck? |
