After Monday’s issue, many of you wrote back asking for details about how to write a memo for VCs when raising funds. Today, I’ll share the outline that I start with each time I write a memo for a client!
Short Memo
This memo should be written in a narrative tone. If you don’t yet know about Amazon’s 6-page memo, then you should read into that memo and how Amazon likes to write their memos. I model this short memo after that style. The goal is to replace the traditional pitch deck that 99% of founders are still relying upon as the primary source of information after their first meeting with a document that is short enough to read in under 20 minutes, is well thought out, tells a strong story, conveys my/my client’s perspective and shows that I’ve considered in-depth everything that others are simply putting as a 5-word bullet point on a slide.

Solution (This isn’t the product, so don’t talk about features or product details).
Traction/Story So Far
Market (Focus on the TAM and potential of the business)

Deal Terms
